growing lupinus texensis (Fabaceae) Texas bluebonnet from seed

Question
Hello,

I live in Brooklyn NY and am lucky to have a backyard that
receives a good amount of sunlight.

I received some lupinus seeds from my mom and would love to
have some of these beautiful plants blooming in my garden.
Since the plant thrives in Texas and blooms there in March, I was
wondering when would be an appropriate time to plant them
here in NY?

Also, do I need to soak them in tepid water for 24hrs first?  And
when will I be able to see any flowers (approximate month)?

Thanks for your help!!!

Answer
Hi Chris,
Thanx for your question.  Wait until the last frost in your area and soak the seeds 24 hours in warm water.  Plant in the ground after danger of hard frosts.  Germination is fast usually in 10 days or less.  You should see some flowers in May.  I think I started some here in Kansas City indoors in March and planted them out in April and they bloomed in May before Memorial Day.  I hope this helps.
Tom
