QuestionI am doing a science fair project. My project is what color of light causes sunflower seeds to grow best? I need to have some research on the growth of sunflower seeds, and I was wondering if you could help me with some information? Thanks!

AnswerJamie,
Thanx for your question. My area of expertise is horticulture. You are asking a botany question which is directly connected to horticulture but still a different science. I do know that sunflower seeds germinate without light however, once they grow and begin to bloom, the face of the bloom will face the sun. I have seen daffodils do this also. That could mean yellow light stimulates them to grow but I really don't know. I know that red light in the spectrum will help tomatoes grow. It has been proven by using red plastic around the plants. Red light is reflected on the plant and stimulates growth and fruiting. I would suggest to you that you do a search on Google.com and type in something like What color of light causes sunflowers to grow? I found a number of different websites in doing a similar search. Try that and see if that doesn't help you. I hope this helps.
