My question is simply this, is there any certain direction that the seed should be planted so that its journey into this world might be easier?

Answer
It makes absolutely no difference.  Mother nature has a way (with the help of gravity) to ensure that the roots reach downward and the plant grows upward.  The only exception to this that I have heard is with beans.  Although they will still grow regardless of how the seed is planted, it is the only seed that has a natural marking (usually white) that indicates the side through which the stem will grow.
