Dear Tom,
Last summer, I tried to understand what the owner of my new home was doing to the impatients.  She was removing the green center from each flower saying she was fooling mother nature?  
What do you suppose she was doing.

Hi Deb,
Thanx for your question.  Perhaps she was removing the reproductive parts which prevent the plant from producing seed.  Producing seed takes a lot of energy out of the plant and most of us remove the whole spent flower to encourage more blooms.  If that's not it, I'm not sure what she meant by fooling mother nature.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
