propagation of a snowball bush/shrub

Question
Hi.  I am moving and have a snowball bush...in bloom now.  I would like to take a start of it with me.  Do I wait for seed; take a cutting, dig a root?   Thank you.  Bonnie

Answer
Hi Bonnie,
Thanx for your question.  The best bet would be to dig up a clump of the roots.  First thing I would do is chop off branches of the bush closest to the point you want to dig.  Dig deeply and use a very sharp knife or machete to cut off an ample set of roots.  Transplant these roots immediately to the new growing place.  Keep them well watered and fertilize with a fertilizer rated for flowering shrubs. (Miracle Grow will help because all you want now is green growth.)  The shrub may not bloom next year.  Give the roots up to 3 years to make a substantial bush able to produce nice blooms.  I hope this helps.
Tom
