Growing Plumeria (Frangipani)

Question
I live in central Florida and have tried repeatedly to grow Plumeria from cuttings in containers.  Most of my efforts have resulted in slow growth, few or no flowers and insect infestation. My main question is what are the optimum soil conditions that will encourage growth and flowering? pH? soil additives? Would adding lime be helpful?

Any other suggestions for growing Plumeria would also be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi George, I've had the best results using aquatic soil. It's either ground lava rock or baked clay and it works well.  There is no 'soil' in it so it drains rapidly.  Sprinkle a slow release fertilizer on top so there is a constant feed whenever you water or use fish emulsion regularly.  Let you cutting callous for a week or so before sticking in the soil and coat the cutting with a rooting hormone when you plant it.  Jim
