worms in my houseplant

Question
i have centipede looing worms in my phildenderon they are brownish about 1 inch in length, and have a hard shell on them if you touch them they curl up in a hard ball. they aren't millipedes that i have seen pictures of what are they and how do i get rid of them?

Answer
Hi Cindy, they are centipedes.  They aren't harming your plant, they are just more of a nuisance.  If you the set the pot in the sink or tub and fill it with water to just below the rim, you can drown and/or flush them out. The water should be warm, not hot, and let the pot stay in the water for 30 minutes.  If you can't do that, add a teaspoon of permethrin insecticide to a gallon of water next time you need to water, or buy a dog flea collar and lay it on the soil surface.  Most flea collar have permethrin in them and it should give you 3-4 months of control.  Jim
