QuestionOrchid roots
QUESTION: Hi Mr. Crowder,
I'm from Singapore. I've attached an image of my orchid.
Are the roots healthy? The lower leaves are shrivelled
though. I would mist the roots in the morning everyday. How
should I remedy the issue?
Regards
ANSWER: The plant looks great. You can trim off the dry roots and the lowest leaf before you pot it. The foliage looks fine to me. It's a good looking Phalaenopsis. Jim

QUESTION: Thank you Mr. Crowder. Are shrivelled leaves a normal
condition for orchids or they underscore issues like lack of
water? Does the plant need repotting? Are the roots being set
too high above the pot? What are the implications? (Att. is
the entire orchid plant)
AnswerI suspect it got dry at some point, but your flowers would be wilting if it was an ongoing situation. It needs to be repotted with the crown of the plant just above the surface, but wait until after it finishes blooming. You can trim the roots back and put it back in the same pot with fresh orchid soil. Jim
