QuestionI bought 9 4ft high cedars at the first of august on sale I planted as required and watered regularly now I am noticing that they are starting to turn brown in the middle on all the trees is this normal for the fall or how can I save them I live in nova scotia the past 2 weeks we have had a lot of rain help i love my trees
AnswerHi, Internal foliage turning brown on a new planting is most likely a watering issue. Most of the time, it's caused from the plant getting too dry...and it only takes one time. If the newest growth is still bright green and pliable, then I think they will survive, but if it has lost the feeder roots from lack of water, then it doesn't matter how much water it gets now, it can't absorb it, the damage is done.
I'd apply root stimulator to them weekly for the next month or so. Water thoroughly when you water and check the moisture level of the rootball with your finger every day or two. When the soil is dry about an inch deep, then water.
You don't have any roots out into your soil yet. Wind can suck the moisture quickly out of the foliage, so check the rootball often.
