tomatoes grown in cat poop

Question
I am planting the tomato plants I bought last week at the local farmer's market and have discovered that the planting containers are filled with cat poop.  The woman who grew the plants evidently used cat litter as a growing medium, mixed with soil.

Should I use these plants or return them?  Are tomatoes that were grown in this way safe to eat?

Answer
Hi Alice, If they are grown in soil blended with fresh cat litter (no poop), then there is no problem.  If it does have feces in it, I would not use them. The main danger is from you coming in contact with parasites from the feces either from handling the soil or being splashed up on the plant from rain.  Jim
