bushes-roots

Question
We have removed several bushes(don't know what kind) from our yard. Most of the major roots came up with them, but probably not all, and definitely not the runners. We plan to cover the areas with sod. Do we need to worry about them resprouting, if so, what can we use to prvent it?

Answer
Hi Chris, some shrubs will root sprout, some don't, but you can't prevent it from happening.  If they do, use a little broadleaf weed killer that you would use in your lawn and spot spray them.  It will not hurt the grass and will eventually kill the shrub.  No plant wants to die, so it may make several attempts to sprout, just keep them sprayed.  You could just mow them down, it may take a little longer, but if the plant can't produce foliage to make food, it will die.  Jim
