QuestionHello! I have four raised beds that are 4 by 8 and 12" deep. Could you please tell me the best amount/ratio of soil and/or ammendments for these? They will all be for vegetables. They are completely empty right now. Thank you so much for any help!
AnswerHi Danielle, I'd like to have about 60-70% clay and the balance in compost, finely ground bark and manure. If you plan on growing many root crops, drop the clay to 40-50% and the balance in the above organic matter. You might save one bed for root crops. You'll need just a little over a cubic yard (27 cubic feet) of material for each bed. Blend it thoroughly and don't forget to check you pH, it should be around 6.5 to 7. Jim
