QuestionHi James, Can you please tell me a good recipe for General potting soil mix for up flowers that I have rooted to sell?
Thanks so much
Betty
AnswerHi Betty, I'd use a different mix depending on what type of plant you are growing. For most herbaceous plants, I use 70% ground sphagnum peat moss, 20% pine bark fines and 10% perlite. For woody plants, I'd use 70% pine bark fines, 20% compost or peat and 10% coarse sand. These are good general mixes. For some plants you may need to adjust the ratio, so test various formulas until you find one that gets the best results. We grow 400 varieties of perennials here at the nursery. We use 4 different soils and still modify those for some plants. Jim
