QuestionI Have A Couple Of Fruit Trees That I Wanted To Put On Bigger Pots And My Question Was Can I Mix In Steer Manure In The Bigger Pot. I Seen The Steer Manure At My Local Hardware Store It Is A 1 Cubic Foot Bag And Was Thinking Mixing It With Another Cubic Foot Of All Purpose Soil. Will That Be Ok For The Fruit Tree Or Is It Bad For It?
AnswerHi Oscar, A little manure mixed in is fine, but I would not use more than about 20%. Bagged manure has little nutritional value, usually less than 1/2 lb. of fertilizer in 100 lbs. of manure. The containers need to drain quickly and I'm afraid it may hold moisture too long in the quantities you are suggesting. I'd use a coarser soil mix and you'll need to fertilize on a regular basis, the manure just isn't much food. Jim
