QuestionI am getting ready to plant redwood trees in my back yord. I dug the holes and was planning on planting them with potting soil. Is this the best way to go?
AnswerHi Matthew, Do not remove the existing soil. Loosen it and mix 1/3 new soil or organic matter with your soil and then plant. If the potting soil is mostly bark, then I'd use it. I would not use lightweight potting soil. Finely ground bark or coarse compost would be better. Jim
