I have attached a photo of the hill behind our house. As you can see, the water from the pipe jutting out has created a gouge going down the hill, and I want to extend the pipe all the way down the hill so the water empties out at the bottom of the hill. I want to do it in sections, starting with an elbow, and the rest of it would lie flat in the gouged area.
Two questions regarding laying down the pipes. I am an amateur. Do I need to use blue glue and white threading to put the pipe sections together, or will the blue glue be enough?
Should I lay down the piping and cover it with sand bags, or put
dirt or sand bags on the ground first and then lay the pipe sections on top? Other than for the appearance, is it necessary to cover the pipe sections with dirt or sandbags? Would sand be interchangeable with dirt (again, this is aside from appearance.)?
AnswerHi David, I'd use flex pipe. Attach it to your pipe with a clamp and cover the whole thing with soil. You may need an adapter to attach the two pipes together, but your local hardware store should have everything you need. If the line was under pressure, I'd glue, but for a simple drain, flexible pipe is easier to work with and it conforms to your existing trench. There is no need for sand bags, just cover it with soil. Jim
