QuestionAt the base of our hill 15 feet high we want to plant pine trees, about 1 inch in diameter.
Water is bleeding out from the base of the hill.
Can we plant them there and if so how.??
AnswerHi Steve, My first choice would be the loblolly pine, Pinus taeda. It grows in floodplain and adjacent to swamps. It prefers soils that drain slowly. But it may not be hardy where you live, so check with your local nurseryman. It's hardy from USDA Zone 6 southward.
Regardless of your choice, plant high. The top of the rootball should be 2" above the existing soil line. Bring your soil up to, but not on top of the rootball. This slight elevation helps prevent you or Mother Nature from over-watering it. Jim
