St Augustine grass freeze problems

Question
Hi, I live in NE FL and have St Augustine grass.  This winter was harsh in NE FL.  The grass greened up for a couple of weeks, then freezing weather set in again.  The grass is not fully coming back.  I have large brown sections of grass.  There are signs of life in the grass.  I am trying to find out if there is anything I can do to expedite the process.  And I am not entirely positive the grass will recuperate.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Joey, If it's freeze damage, I'd suggest very, very light frequent doses of nitrogen and frequent mowing to encourage it to spread.  I'd use about 1/4 lb. of nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. every other week.  Plug some of your living grass into the damaged areas and be patient.  Or, cut it out and sod it.  Jim
