QuestionHi, I recently repotted a cactus plant and it has been slowly dying and i have noticed the soil has white on it, I do know that this is some sort of fungus but do not know how to treat it. Is there a home remedy solution i can make??
AnswerHi Teri, Fungus grows on decomposing organic mattter. It may have nothing to do with your cactus dying. I suspect it's more related to soil drainage and type. I'd bare root the cactus again and pot it in a very coarse cactus mix. Clean the pots with bleach before reuse. Do not water it for a week after repotting. We want to let the damaged roots callous over. Then water very sparingly.
If fungus returns, go to a garden center and get an appropriate fungicide. I can not recommend a 'homemade' remedy.
