QuestionThank you for taking my questions:
I sent a soil sample to the University of New Hampshire for testing. I was wondering if you could help me interpret the results of the soil test. I want to grow organic vegetables. The garden size is 5000 sq ft.
You can view the results here: http://ceadmin.unh.edu/soils/reports/soils_report.cfm?lab_id=10140&cust_type=6
General opinion of the results.
Do you agree with their recommendations?
What do you recommend for my garden soil?
What do you think it will cost to follow their recommendations?
Where should I buy these additives? Local Agway store? Mail order?
I plan to grow a few different green manure crops. How might that change what I should add to the soil?
I also have some compost to add?
Much abliged,
Phil
AnswerHi Phil, Their recommendations are clear and correct. Cost? Don't know. It depends on where you live. I'd find a good independent garden center. They are the experts in your area, not the box stores.
Green manure and compost will not alter the recommendations. Any organic matter you can till in will help the texture of your soil and your productivity. The lime is the most important part of the report. Make sure you do that soon. Jim
