QuestionHi, I am making a terrace garden. The volume of each pot is about 100 liters.I have used ordinary soil with vermi cultured compost. The plants were in good health till the beginning of rainy season. Now the rains are heavy in Bangalore, India and the pots are not getting drained. This is affecting the plants. So advice me on soil preparation for planting in the pots.
AnswerHi Kasi, Adding coarse rock or gravel to your soil mix will speed drainage and filling the pot 1/3 to 1/2 full with gravel and then adding soil will also help. Gravel dries much quicker than soil and many plants don't need deep soil.
Since your plants have done well in the soil, consider instead, blocking the rain. Covering the soil or the plant to divert rain may be a better option. Jim
