mold growing inside the bag of purchased house plant potting soil

Question
I recently purchased a name brand of potting soil to do my indoor potting and re-potting.  The soil was stored for a while and when opening it to use there was white and gray mold on the top of the soil and down the sides of the bag.
Is this soil SAFE to use?  If so, what do I do about the molded areas?
I need to find out very soon because I will be giving some of the plants as gifts and I don't want to give a diseased plant to someone.
Need HELP!!

Answer
Hi Wanda, I certainly would not use the soil for indoor plants.  Most fungus that grow on soil do not hurt the plant, but I'm more concerned with mold spores and allergies.  It's probably safe to use in outdoor containers, but if it were mine, I'd use it as soil amendment in the garden or discard it.  Jim
