Hi James,

My husband has created a rock stairway leading down the side of our hillside, my questions is, "Is there anything you can advise to seal the dirt that he has compressed in between the rocks to keep it from washing away by rainfall?  He didn't use any mortor, just rocks and soil, after all the endless hours, we're concerned the soil will wash away should a rainstorm hit.

Hi Debbie, If you use builder's (sharp) sand, it will pack and you'll get very little wash.  You may need to color it by adding a little of your soil to it.  If you have already filled the cracks with soil, wait until you lose some to wash and then mix the sand and soil together and sweep it into the cracks.  Jim
