soil issue? grass dying

Question
We have replanted 350 sq ft of sod 5 times now. The first time we rototilled
and added different ammendments including a organic compost from the
local nursery.  The first time the grass died out within 6 weeks.  Now we just
re sodded for the fifth time and it has been 10 days and guess what, I can see
the same thing starting to happen. Brown patches starting to form, thinning
areas. Is it possible that there is a fungus or something in the soil. Everything
else is fine, plants etc front lawn.

Answer
Hi Marta, It's very possible it's fungal.  You didn't say what kind of grass it is or anything about the environment.  New sod must be kept muddy, but not standing in water, until it roots in. That usually takes 2-3 weeks. If it's the correct type of grass for your sun/shade situation and you are properly watering, I'd treat the area with a good fungicide ASAP.  Check with your local garden center for one approved for use in your area and check your pH.  It should be in the 6-7 range.  Jim
