QuestionI have a corkscrew willow tree that I moved last year. It seemed to be doing well and then I noticed the leaves looking a little brown and curled. I also noticed some dead branches which I trimmed off. Then I saw my neighbor take salt water from the canal and pour it thru the fence onto my tree. I immediately hosed the tree with fresh water and purchased a large bag of Gypsum from the local nursery. Is there anything else I can do for the tree and or the soil to help it recover. Also how often should I use the Gypsum on the soil? I would appreciate your help with this. Thank you
AnswerHi Nikki, I think one application of gypsum should be enough. Continue to water it thoroughly to help flush out the salt. Consider moving it once it has gone dormant this fall...away from the neighbors fence. You can't watch it 24 hours a day. You can purchase an inexpensive soil salt meter and it might be worth the cost. If it's still high, add a little more gypsum. Jim
