QuestionThe yard in front of my side door is red, slippery mud. What do I add and in what proportions to change it into soil for future gardening?
AnswerHi Elizabeth, I'd add 40-50% organic matter (leaves, grass clippings, finely ground pine bark, a little composted manure, composted cotton burrs, etc.) and till it 8-12" deep. This will build you soil height and improve your drainage. Check your pH and adjust it if necessary and you are ready to plant. Jim
