Hi, i was thinking of doing sand quality tests for my science fair- if children's play sand was really safe to play in.  Can you recommend me any tests on the sand that I can do?  I know one of the harms of play sand is silica dust, but I do not know how to test for that either. And i could not find previous science fair research done on this subject

Hi Mark, I do not know of any way for you to analyze samples.  I would suggest you call each manufacturer that you have samples of and ask for a copy of their MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and then contact OSHA and see what levels are permissible in the workplace and the CDC to see if they have established any guidelines.  Good Luck.  Jim
