QuestionWhat will grow in sandy soil? It's dry and it seems like there is no.....majic in it.
AnswerHiJessica, Just about anything if...you give it enough food and water. Mix some organic matter with the sand and you extend the amount of time between watering and feeding but you decrease the number of plants you can grow. Mix some clay and organic matter into the sand and you extend the time more and decrease the number further. The finer the particle, the more moisture and nutrients are retained. Plants that tolerate poorly drained soils usually will live in well drained soils. Plants that like well drained soils die quickly in poorly drained soils. So the sandy soil is an opportunity. You're limited more by temperature hardiness than by soil if you do the proper site preparation for the plants you choose. Jim
