QuestionWe have an unusual field for our area (SE Minnesota) with a large deposit of greenhouse quality soil and peat. It has been evaluated and documented. I'm interested in marketing mining rights for it. It would qualify for wetland mitigation, as well. Would you know of any web sites or advertising vehicles that might reach the right type of buyer? Thank you.
AnswerHi Dan,
Most greenhouse growers use soilless mixes now, but what you have has real value to companies bagging for the retail market. I'd start with the MN Soil and Water people (www.bwsr.state.mn.us/grantscostshare/fleval.html).
If they can't help you, check with your local agricultural extension office at your state university.
If still nothing, contact Carol Ledbetter <
[email protected]>.
She's on the National Soil Council. They check soils and mulch for quality and contaminants and she'll probably know of the closest soil manufacturer to where you live.
Good Luck on your venture. Jim
